Richmond left behind
Richmond, British Columbia is one of Vancouver's fastest-growing suburbs. With a population of over 200,000, it is the fourth largest city in British Columbia, driven primarily by successive waves of immigration over the last several decades. Over 50% of Richmond residents identify as Chinese, making it the city in North America with the largest proportion of Asians. This growth has spawned an impressive array of housing developments, shopping malls, and office parks.
Yet amidst all of this new development, Richmond's central core has a surprising number of relics: vacant lots, abandoned homes, and low-density businesses that seem left behind by everything around them. Here are some examples.
